Duke of Edinburgh Award

We are proud to work in partnership with the Duke of Edinburgh Award to support you to achieve either the Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE Award. Our Youth Advisory Board has lots of opportunities for you to complete the volunteering section of your award.

Activities to help you complete your award

Youth Advisory Board

Our Youth Advisory Board (also known as YAB) will give young people the chance to be at the heart of decision making in GamCare. The YAB will ensure our work is relevant and meets the needs of young people throughout the UK.

Youth Inspectors & Analysts

Youth Inspectors & Analysts

Our youth inspectors & analysts play a vital role within our advisory board. They observe our training and education workshops, look at case studies from our support service and make recommendations on how we can better engage young people.

Youth Content & Comms Team

Youth Content & Comms Team

Championing the voice of young people the youth content & comms team contribute to social media management and creation, video production and editing, website editing plus improving, creating and co-delivering educational content.

Youth Event Planners

Youth Event Planners

Our youth event planners help create new ideas, improve old ones and organise different events involving the organisation and the YAB. From developing awareness campaigns on gambling related harm to assisting the youth content & comms team with social media takeovers, generating ideas for content creation and much more. The event planners are an essential part of the board.

Lived Experience Team

Lived Experience Team

Listening to the voice of young people that have been affected by gambling related harm is crucial to how we shape our programmes and services.

Our lived experience team help to influence developments in the prevention, support and treatment of gambling related harms by sharing their stories.

Tips for completing your award

  • Permission and Consent
    If you are under 18 ask your parent/guardian for permission and consent for how you plan to complete each activity.
  • Evidence everything!
    Take as many pictures and videos as possible for your DofE.
  • YAB Leader
    Your YAB leader needs to aware of all your progress and will sign your assessors report, they are also there to help.
  • Professional Development
    You will be gaining on-the-job experience and training, ensure you include this in your CV and share this at any future job interviews.

Updates on the YAB & DofE

If you are a youth-facing professional or a parent of a young person interested in the YAB, you can receive free CPD-accredited training which covers gambling and how it can become harmful, how to safeguard young people if they choose to gamble, and information on gaming. You can find out more here.
